Interior Navigation Sign "Cloakroom": Principles of Universal Design
This elegant navigation sign is an example of the implementation of Universal Design and Inclusion in space. The sign is designed so that every visitor, regardless of language, age or level of vision, can quickly and easily find the cloakroom.
Key emphases on inclusivity:
- Bilingualism and Clarity (Principle 1: Fair Use):
The presence of the inscription in Ukrainian ("Cloakroom") and English ("Cloakroom") makes the information accessible to a wider audience, including foreign guests.
2. Contrast and Readability (Principle 3: Simple and intuitive use):
High contrast between white elements (pictogram, text) and a matte dark gray background ensures maximum readability, which is critically important for people with visual impairments. Clear, large font is easily perceived from a distance.
3. Universal Icon (Principle 2: Flexibility in Use):
The use of a universally recognized coat hanger icon is an intuitive symbol that does not require language knowledge. This speeds up the orientation process for all users.
4. Aesthetics and Integration (Principle 7: Size and Space for Approach):
The elegant and minimalist premium design easily integrates into any modern interior, without creating visual noise, but remaining noticeable and accessible.
5. Braille and Tactile Symbols (Key Element of Inclusivity):
The sign features raised (tactile) letters and Braille below the main bilingual information.
The presence of these elements makes navigation fully accessible to people with visual impairments, meeting the requirements of DBN (State Building Code) and international standards.
The sign should be placed at a height convenient for reading Braille (usually 1200–1500 mm from the floor), next to the doorway
